قِبَلك: الظرف متعلق بحال من الموصول

Active Participle signifies the person, creature or thing/object that performs the action associated with the verb from which it is derived. Arabic Participles describe or refer to entities involved in an activity, process, or state. For this reason, it is often referred as Verbal Agent.

*** Active Participle can also signify a person or thing/object to whom/which existence of a particular state or effect is attributed. However, the attribution of a state is not understood to be permanent in an Active Participle. Due to this peculiarity, it is also referred as Verbal Adjective. Used as an adjective, the Active Participle acts as descriptive term. Functioning as adjectives, Active Participles reflect the gender of noun that they modify.

In light of this perception and meanings can you be so erroneous to presume that people can run towards somebody in fear and docility only to ridicule him?

While reading any translation or "Tafsir" of these Ayah 70:36-38, please do compare the meanings of same word selected by author at 14:43 and 54:08.

ى  is the Object Pronoun: First person referring Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam. It should be remembered that strictly following him does not mean acting upon conjectures and hearsay attributed in time and space by various people to him. ِ means and denotes only that what the Elevated Messenger of Allah the Exalted personally followed.

"Indeed I practically follow in letter and spirit that [Grand Qur'aan] which is communicated to me from my Sustainer Lord". [He pronounced it four times 6:50;7:203; 10:15;46:09 . He was directed for this four times in 6:106;10:109;33:02;75:18]

We literally follow Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam only when we act on Qur'aan.

Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam will be approached by non-believers for Paradise

  • Thereat, what is the purpose-explanation of this activity of those who had persistently refused to accept that they are hurriedly heading in fear and docility to be face to face with you- Muhammad [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam], keeping their uninterrupted focus upon you? They are approaching from your right and left side in small groups. [70:36-37]

  • Is it that by approaching you [Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] in fear and docility each of them vehemently hopefully desires that he might be caused entry in a Paradise of Delight?  [70:38]

..........

Thereat, what is the desire, purpose-explanation of those who had persistently refused to accept

Learned grammarians parse this word as "الفاء مستأنفة، "ما" اسم استفهام مبتدأ، والجار متعلق بالخبر". Particle فَ is initiating a discourse. It signifies cause and effect. "ما" is interrogative noun. It is the Subject of Nominal Sentence.  لِ is a Genitive particle/Preposition for specification, to indicate exclusivity; and for explanation. The cause of surprise and interrogation is the happening-an activity mentioned immediately after.

This Relative Pronoun, in genitive state, is the Object Pronoun of Preposition. The Prepositional Phrase relates to the Predicate of Nominal Sentence.  This Verbal sentence is the clause termed as صِلَةُ الْمَوْصُولِ, and defines-distinguishes the Relative Pronoun. It is a Perfect Verb:  Third Person; Plural; Masculine; active; و Subject Pronoun in nominative state [عائد] linking back to the Relative Pronoun. It means, "those who did the act of refusal to accept".

The question is to enquire about the explanation-justification for this activity of those who had refused to accept:

to confront, to be face to face before you-in the manner of those who hasten to confront in fear and submission, docility.

is Active Participle: Indefinite; masculine; sound plural; accusative; [Form-IV]. Its Root is "ھ ط ع". The basic perception infolded is described by learned Ibn Faris [doed-1005] in these words:

الهاء والطاء والعين: أُصَيلٌ يدلُّ على إقبالٍ على الشّيء وانقياد. يقال: هَطَعَ الرّجلُ على الشَّيء ببصره: أقبَلَ.

That, it leads to the perception of approaching the object for confronting it with mindset of submission, docility. Let us see other Classical Lexicons as to what they say about the meanings and signification infolded in this Root.

These Lexicons define as those people who hasten to approach an object in a state of fear, humility, docility. To come running in fright, advancing with his eyes fixed on something from which he did not raise them. To hasten forward, go along fearfully in looking fixedly at a point.

The in this discourse are those people who had refused in the past to accept and become believers. The object towards which they are fast approaching in a state of fear and docility keeping their eyes focused on him is Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam. The scene of this activity further portrays for us this information:

They are approaching from your right and left side in small groups.

These are rushing towards Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam from his right and left side in circumstantial state of -denoting small groups.

This activity has caused surprise and occasioned question as to their purpose-explanation for having become for confronting Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam. The purpose and explanation of their activity is enquired by another question.

Is it that by approaching you [Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] each of them/ vehemently hopefully desires....

Interrogative particle + Verb: Imperfect; Third person; singular; masculine; Mood Indicative; مصدر طَمَعٌ Verbal Noun. Lane's Lexicon states that it signifies, " He coveted it; i. e. desired it vehemently, eagerly, greedily, very greedily, excessively, inordinately, or culpably; or he strove to acquire, obtain, or attain, it; syn. حَرَصَ عَلَيْهِ: (K, TA:) طَمَعٌ signifying the longing, or yearning, for a thing; or lusting after it; mostly, for the gratification of animal appetite, without any lawful incitement: (Er-Rághib, TA:) and it is mostly used in relation to that of which the occurrence, or coming to pass, is [deemed] near: but sometimes طَمِعَ فِيهِ signifies he hoped for it".

This is Possessive Phrase. is the Subject of preceding Verb and the phrase signifies every one without exception.

This prepositional phrase relates to elided adjective of subject of verb. The object pronoun of Preposition refers to persons among  who has since reached confronting Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam. What is the vehement desire and hope that forced the Non Believers to become -active participles-those who hasten to approach Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam in a state of fear, humility and docility?

that he might be caused entry in a Paradise of Delight.

Subordinating conjunction, Subjunctive particle, signifying that which is the cause of becoming and approaching Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam.

Verb: Imperfect; Third person; singular; masculine; Passive; Mood: Subjunctive; [Form-IV]; Proxy Subject Pronoun hidden; مصدر-إِدْخَالٌ Verbal noun, referring back to of . The Subjunctive Mood signifies desire and hope. It signifies, "he be caused to enter-may be he is caused to enter". Where he vehemently desires and hopes from Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam to cause him enter? This is Possessive Phrase. is the Object of Verb, a place for entry. [مضاف إليه ]-signifying a place full of delight.

It is thus evident that this scene is an happening of the Day of Judgment when non believers are rushing in panic with fear, humility, humbleness and strong desire and hope of seeking intercession by Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam to cause them enter in a Paradise of Delight.

The non-believers are depicted acting at their own accord. No one has directed them to run towards Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam. A man performs action only in hope of achieving a favorable result as desired. Moreover, an act performed at one's own accord manifests his prior knowledge and perception about it. It shows that they were aware in their lives about the exalted stature of Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam and concept of intercession.

However, Paradise is not meant for the Non-Believers. Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam will, therefore, not intercede for them. Allah the Exalted has pronounced:

No, this desire of Non Believing will not be entertained. [Refer 70:39]

This is the Particle of Restriction, coined for the censor of and determent regarding that which was desired or spoken.

Let us today run-follow after Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam in letter and spirit in a manner than none else interrupts and influences us in between. This will win us the pleasure and approval of Allah the Exalted and intercession by Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam for our shortcomings. It is guaranteed by him under advice of Allah the Exalted:

  • You, the Messenger, [Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam, for believers] pronounce-guarantee, "If you people love Allah the Exalted, then to demonstrate and prove it you consciously incline to follow me, in letter and spirit, without in between there being third party intervention-influence.

  • Allah the Exalted will in response-reciprocally love-appreciate and acknowledge act of you people.

  • Moreover, He the Exalted will overlook and grant forgiveness for you people for your earlier wrong-doings.

  • Remember, Allah the Exalted is The Forgiving-Overlooking and The Merciful". [3:31]
